I
put together rjt.ca to provide information about me and my projects.
Profile:
My name is Robert John Tarrant. I was born in 1950 and grew up in
the village of Stoke Poges, Buckinghamshire, England. At 17 I moved
to Canada with my parents, 2 brothers and sister who are now scattered
throughout British Columbia and Australia.
I
live in the small town of Peachland, British Columbia, Canada with
my partner Janet Neilson, daughter, dog and two cats in our own
house overlooking a huge stretch of the Okanagan Valley.
Job:
For the last ten years I have been responsible for the day to day
running of the computer network at the Ministry of Environment in
Penticton, BC. It is very enjoyable work partly due to the variety
of tasks and the friendliness of the people who work there.
Before
that, I started a worker-owned moving business, M.U.M.S., which
operated successfully for several years in East Vancouver, BC. During
that time I traveled extensively in the U.S. to study non-religious
intentional communities that were experimenting with various alternative
forms of egalitarian social organization.
I
have a degree in Psychology and Philosophy and supported myself
as a musician for 6 years.
Enjoyments:
I feel remarkably lucky to have such a beautiful family and enjoy
the time I spend in discussion with Jan and reading and chatting
with our daughter. Laughing with both of them. Every other morning
I walk for an hour with our big dog usually in the forest and go
hiking on the logging roads and deer trails at the weekends. Wilderness
solitude. Reading and playing on the computer when I have the time.
Early mornings. Music. Playing guitar.
Interests:
The Future. Supporting Feminism. Change and trends in society. Practicing
yoga. A vegetarian version of the CRON diet and anticipating a long,
healthy life. Creating Web pages. Musing on philosophical issues.
Simplifying my life. Inventing. Learning flexibility. Creating new
opportunities.
